Reproductive Services and Ultrasonography

For dairy and beef cattle clients, herd checks for pregnancy and reproductive health can be scheduled weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as-needed to fit your herd needs.

Pregnancy diagnosis can be performed manually (palpation) or with ultrasonography (ultrasound machine). Detection by manual palpation is available at 35 days after breeding. Ultrasonography can be used to diagnosis pregnancy starting at 28 days post-breeding in mature cows and 25 days in heifers.

Along with pregnancy diagnosis, ovarian structures are evaluated for proper structural function and cyclicity. Detection of abnormal ovarian structures is most accurate with reproductive ultrasound. Ultrasound can also be useful to identify poor uterine environment, uterine infection and pyometra, and fetal-gender determination (between 55 and 90 days post-breeding).

Regular herd checks for pregnancy and reproductive health can impact total farm profitability including advantages of decreased days open after voluntary waiting periods.
